Last Wednesday we revealed preliminary law firm merger numbers for the second quarter of the year as tracked by the Hildebrandt Institute. While the numbers and trends remain essentially unchanged, the big news since then was the announcement last Thursday that Herbert Smith and Australia’s Freehills will combine in October to create a new firm, Herbert Smith Freehills, with 2,800 lawyers.
